Why is Stony Brook closing down its Southhampton campus?

Is it solely because of budget cuts?

That is the reason administration is giving.

Also - it’s important to note that only residential and academic programs are closing at Southhampton. SoMAS activity including harboring of research vessels will continue at the site. The property is still owned by Stony Brook.

I also heard from my friend’s roommate that there are budget cuts in SB Manhattan next year (so no summer courses?). Is it true?

It’s closing a Manhattan space, but not the manhattan “campus” where the classes are held.
