Does anyone have anything to say about the campus in Southampton, formerly run by Long Island University, that has been taken over by Stony Brook? We are interested but other than their new website there is no information that I can find. We do plan to tour. I should mention that my son has been accepted to "big" Stony Brook as an Undeclared major.

Momzilla, Stony Brook Southampton will be a standalone campus with one major: Environmental Studies. (The full details of the program should be online.) We're really starting from scratch out there; it's going to be a small campus with a ton of individual attention. There will definitely be a liberal arts component... it's not all environmental science, it's not marine science; those components will be available for students, but it's much more than that.

For students who are interested in Marine Sciences, that will stay in Stony Brook. We'll continue to use the marine station on Shinnecock Bay out there for classes, but students will live on main campus.

Southampton is really its own dog; students apply there separately, and attend classes there, although they'll have access to all of the clubs and activities and everything that a regular Stony Brook student would have.

Hope this helps; if you have specific questions, you can contact the staff out there; they'd be more than willing to help.
