Why is the ACT neglected?

I’ve noticed on the SAT preparation thread of CC that the SAT has some VERY helpful guides on raising SAT scores, such as 2080 to 2340 in 10 days, silver turlte’s guide to the SAT, and especially Noitra prep’s 800 on CR guide which helped me get a 790. With that being said, I have a 2160 SAT score and I want to take the ACT so I can get a 33 or better ( I don’t trust I will have enough resources with the new SAT). However, I’m having trouble finding threads as good for the SAT as for the ACT, or really any at all. Any thoughts?

Two reasons for the lack of ACT resources compared to SAT resources:

  1. The ACT only recently gained significant popularity
  2. The SAT tests more of “tricks,” which I would think are easier to dissect with a guide.

English: Buy Erica Meltzer’s ACT English book.
Math: If you take advanced math, you’re good to go. Also, bring a TI-84 on test day.
Reading/Science: take practice tests.

I’d recommend also the Red Book (probably the single best book) and Barron’s 36.

@golfcashoahu Erica Meltzer also has an ACT reading book, why not that? I noticed that her grammar book is much more popular than her reading book, and it seems to be the case with her ACT books. I’m guessing it’s because English grammar is alot easier to make a book for? (Because its all just rules).

And also, I heard the ACT science section is very controversial, and also that the curve for it is very steep (1 wrong is 34 , 2 wrong is 32), what’s up with tha How hard is the science section really?

@Ahmeda14960 The science curve is not that harsh universally; it’s totally test dependent. For instance, on the December test, -4 is enough to get you a 34, whereas on another test it might be a 31.

Actually the ACTs have been more popular than the SATs in the middle of the country. It has overtaken the SATS throughout the country but it was always popular-but not in the northeast which characterizes the home states of the majority of posters on CC.

The ACT science section is controversial not because of the curve but because studies of the validity of the sub-scales ( in terms of predicting or reflecting grades) shows it to lack validity-to add only error to the total composite score.

The ACT is a very popular test among college bound seniors. In fact, over the last few years, more students have taken the ACT than the SAT. It is only neglected by students who prefer the SAT or just don’t want to study for two different tests. The SAT is neglected by those who only take the ACT.

@glido I should have clarified. While I understood that the ACT is technically more popular than the SAT, I was thinking more on there is a neglect on CC. If you go to the SAT forum, you automically see forums such as those of Noitra prep, Xiggi, and silver turtle, where as there is not ACT forum where someone who did really well thoroughly explains how.

@Ahmeda14960 - Agreed.
