The Lego Club.

If u drive I don't see any way you couldn't just go to Downtoan San Diego or Oceanside

both really close

"You made blanket insult about everyone in Santa Cruz yet you call whoswithwhatnow judgmental? You're right UCSD isn't so much the problem as you are."

I apologize for that; now we're even. My point is that I'm not convinced Santa Cruz would be any better. Lest you be worried, though, no I do not say such things that could be percieved as an insult to people's faces, even though I realize it was stupid to assume there wouldn't be anybody from UCSC reading. So at least THAT's not my problem.

"I don't know whether to think of you as an ungrateful complainer or to feel sorry for you. I think you're somebody who was once popular in high school or at least had many friends and had to start back over once college started, and became disillusioned."

Wrong. I was VERY unpopular in High School. My problem is that I expected things to be better than High School, and they weren't.

"With hundreds of clubs/sports teams on campus how is it possible to not find something you're interested in? Finding three other people to start your own club is not difficult if you know how to make connections-- in fact I know somebody who asked for interested people on Facebook and she got more than enough responses."

I'm on facebook, so I'll try it.

"If u drive I don't see any way you couldn't just go to Downtoan San Diego or Oceanside"

I don't think anybody really "drives" at UCSD--not worth it--but we get free bus passes. I've gone to downtown a few times, but I don't know anybody there, and haven't spent enough time yet to learn anybody.

I wish I had my car here. Driving is the key to getting out at meeting people, doing stuff, going to parties. You dont have a car youre pretty much screwed, unless you have a friend with one.

Meh, driving isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Mostly because it comes with gas, maintenance, rent, etc.

I just wish people didn't stick to their own as much as they do around here.

(You know you've seen the roving pack of Asian students)

I've tried being friendly, but that doesn't seem to work all that great, so i'm just as unfriendly to new people.
(Unless, you're from L.A. then I'll treat you like a brother)

"You know you've seen the roving pack of Asian students"
lol

You know, I was like that. I hated this school after I came here. I started planning to either transfer or finish up ASAP. Now I find myself not wanting to leave because I have great friends and finding a job right now...not a good idea. If you're anything like me (person who likes small group gatherings rather than big clubs/sororities), consider TAing or doing research. I met my best friend here through that...nothing better than being forced to sit there an analyze gels or grade tests for hours.

I agree that a car makes life so much easier. Getting groceries, going out...yeah. Thank goodness for roommates that have one.

I came in to UCSD looking for parties and getting drunk etc, but like i_lose, I eventually settled down and started being one of "those kids" who TA and do 199s and stuff. It's great. Surrounding yourself with like-minded and goal-oriented people makes a world of difference and helps keep you motivated for the future--whether it be grad school, getting a good job, or whatever.

My life is "boring" as in I go out to party or get a drink only once every couple of weeks, but in the end I'm happier just spending more time in lab trying to run statistical analyses and trying to get some papers published.

Just come into UCSD open-minded and you'll find your 'niche'. There's a myriad of opportunities to have fun and find diversion here, whether you believe it or not.

^ Very True. It kind of seems like alot of kids will get disappointed when going to college in general to find the things they missed out on in HS but then not getting it. As much as college is a time for fun, it's also a time for growing up and maturing as well.

UCSD is fun. College is what you make it. I had acceptances to perceived bigger name schools like Brown, Emory, and West Point. And also to party schools like Arizona and UCSB. I chose to come out of state to UCSD. The best beaches in America are literally a block away. Snowboarding is 3 hrs away. PB is the best bar scene in the US (except maybe 6th St, Austin, TX). Mission Beach, OB, IB, La Jolla, and El Cajon can also be fun. Downtown/Gaslamp has a clubbing scene that approaches a more intimate Vegas/LA/SF.

UCSD is by no means boring. You can drink every day of the week, I think I did sophomore year. Go Greek. Fraternities and sororities are stronger for not having houses.

It's a better education than almost all other schools. With a laid-back, less pretentous attitude. In a better location than any.

""I don't know whether to think of you as an ungrateful complainer or to feel sorry for you. I think you're somebody who was once popular in high school or at least had many friends and had to start back over once college started, and became disillusioned."

Wow, way to just destroy yourself like that

Guys, with UCSD decisions coming out in two days and everyone so irritable, do you really think its good to put each other down? Come on, we're all worried and we all feel the same way. Don't make it worse by fighting each other.

Agreed.

Two days? I thought it was three..

Not counting today its just two.

This thread is just asking for trouble and drama...

Agreed, R31ncarnat3d.

Haha.
Has anyone actually called to see when the decisions are coming out?

Don't think so.
