It’s funny that 5 W&M students went to Valencia through my UVA in Valencia program. What I liked about UVA study abroad programs is that there are tons and many of them are UVA in * meaning you can get grades that count towards your GPA, something that is very rare at W&M.

It is interesting that UVa people didn’t take this opportunity to bash their cross-state rival. Maybe it helps that they are admissions competitors, but not sports competitors.

We are siblings, not rivals. :)

“-UVA has better sports teams, even though they aren’t that great anyway (Still exists).”

A bit OT, but just wanted to put it out there that saying UVA’s sports teams “aren’t that great” is kinda silly, as UVA easily has one of the best athletics programs in the country. UVA finished 3rd in the Director’s Cup (rankings of Athletics Programs) behind Stanford and Florida last year, and currently is ranked #1 in baseball, tennis, and rowing and #4 in lacrosse. Football and basketball, though they are coming off a few down years, are historically good and both should be looking at pretty successful seasons next year. Don’t underestimate this factor if you are a sports fan deciding!

For the most part, this is true. But on Sept 3, 2011, UVA will play its [2011 season opener](http://www.virginiasports.com/SportSelect.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=17800&SPID=10606&SPSID=88792) against W&M. I suspect it will be a grudge match because of the outcome the last time UVA played W&M. ;)

@Goyanks193, yeah I probably should have explicated further. I meant football and basketball in recent years haha. I am a huge fan of soccer, and UVA is NUMBER 1, so I’m perfectly fine with that =]. I can’t wait to officially commit to UVA (My parents want me to go to DOTL before I officially commit, what a bummer).

Does anyone know anything about the pre-med programs at both schools? I know they’re both great, but which would be better to go to.

Any pre-med information is welcome! :)

I’ve already sent in my deposit to UVA! Bumping this for anyone else who has to decide between UVA and W&M.

Also to Dean J, I remember reading this post last year and waiting for an answer haha. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/10142745-post10.html
Have you gotten the statistics? Thank you!

As a UVA legacy and a future W&M student, I would say that neither school is superior. They do have two clearly distinct atmospheres, and UVA may be more well known because it is 3x larger, but despite the large/small social/studious differentiations, I don’t think they are too dissimilar. I am proud to be a member of the W&M tribe and also proud to be the daughter of 2 UVA grads.

I do, however, sense some family rivalry when it comes to sports next year :)

i’ve been hearing that uva offers a great education and a great social life while william and mary offers a great education and an okay social life.

easy decision is you ask me!

I have friends who got into WM and not UVa but once they enrolled they are happy and have great social lives. I got into both but my heart was set on UVa. Thee is no bad decsion. Congrats

One small plus for UVA: if you like the mountains and mountain-related sports like hiking, camping. whitewater paddling, skiing, rock climbing, etc, at UVA the Shenandoah National Park & Appalachian Trail is just 30 minutes away. This was important to me as a student, but maybe not for others.

You can hardly go wrong at either place, so visit and see what feels best for you.
