As someone who is really interested in Wisconsin, it troubles me that there is no baseball team. I really want to be able to sit down and watch a game. Is there a reason why there is no baseball team and is there any progress in making one?

Here’s the best answer that I had come across:

[Why doesn’t the University of Wisconsin (madison) have a college baseball team? - Yahoo! Answers](<a href=“Yahoo | Mail, Weather, Search, Politics, News, Finance, Sports & Videos”>Yahoo | Mail, Weather, Search, Politics, News, Finance, Sports & Videos)

Good article. Instead of watching a sport, why not participate in one? Or spend the time studying… Not enough people care enough to push for baseball apparently.

The problem is to have men’s baseball they would have to add a similar sized/cost sport for women so the cost doubles. These sports lose money and right now they are just around the break-even point as it is with all the sports paid for by the income sports–no university or student fees funding. Also the climate sucks for Spring baseball.

That was a really good article so thanks billywesty. There has to be a market for baseball since there is an MLB team in Milwaukee. Also from my understanding, there is a independent league team in Madison. Looking at the cost of adding two sports though, it does make sense. At least Wisconsin has Ice Hockey which I really enjoy. I plan to study a lot in college but I would love to sit back and watch a game and I also plan to play intramurals in college

Yes and the BIG is forming its own hockey league now so no more games in Alaska and other outposts. Hockey makes more sense in that climate too. They did add women’s hockey team too. Pretty good too.

is there intramural or club baseball?

Google search says “yes” to Club.

Previous experience says that most schools don’t do intramural baseball, due to equipment, liability, etc. Typically, the intramural side of baseball, ends up being softball, in some flavor. I don’t know specifics for Wisc.

I believe they have a very good hardball baseball club team.
