Like many other forum members who don’t participate in them, I’m a bit bothered by the flood of “what are my chances” threads in forums that are otherwise devoted to discussion of a specific college. There are certainly other threads on the same issue:

<a href=“http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-confidential-cafe/1023997-im-sick-chance-threads.html?highlight=chances[/url]”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-confidential-cafe/1023997-im-sick-chance-threads.html?highlight=chances</a>
While there is a “What are my chances” sub-forum, a lot of threads get added to individual colleges instead (since people are interested in their chances at those individual colleges).
One solution I haven’t seen suggested is to create a separate sub-forum within each college for chances threads. For example, the Harvard forum already has sub-forums for Harvard 2012, Harvard 2013, Harvard 2014, etc, and Harvard Chances could be added as a forum where people could post their own chance thread.
This has the advantage of allowing members who want to start or respond to chances threads an opportunity to do so, while posters who aren’t interested in such threads wouldn’t have to be distracted by them. It seems like a simple enough division to make.
Is there a good reason that separating out chance threads shouldn’t be tried?
(I apologize if this has been suggested before- I tried a forum search to check)
