Why not...what are my chances?

Here’s my info:
I am applying to Brown ED!

ACT Score: 32 (Took it again in November, hoping to raise that another few points)
GPA: 4.22
Rank: 4/532

Senior Year Classes: French 4, AP Government, Aerobics (had to take PE!), Peer Tutoring, Calculus Honors, English 4AP

Extracurriculars: Volunteering at the local hospital every week for the past 2 years, Boy Scout/Eagle Scout, Order of the Arrow Vigil Member/Lodge Chief, VP French Club, California Scholastic Federation Vice President, a few other small ones

Job/Work Experience: I private tutored kids most of last year. Now I am employed at a law office 8hs/wk.

Summer Activities: Summer@Brown- Microbiology (2008)
IEMA Spanish Emersion Program in Spain (2008)
Lead America: Medicine (2007)
Michigan Debate Institute (2006)

I have also taken a lot of classes at our local college: Statistics, Intro to Bio, Health Education, Anatomy and Physio, Art History

Essays: A little concerned about them

Teacher Rec’s: Should be good as far as I know

State: California
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Gender: Male

Awesome rank and cool work experience
I'm from CA too, and I envy your grades

I see that you're concerned about the essays but I think if you did a good job, you have a decent shot (but it's still hard to tell)

Pretty good ECs and activities. Only question would be...honors and awards? Have you received anything? And maybe your SAT ii/AP scores if you have them?

Hm...honors and awards is a hard one.
I dont really have any national or otherwise from the school.

But they arent big on awards in the first place.

I have only taken 1 AP test (World History-3). My school enjoy screwing with my schedule, so I only got the chance to take one up until this year.

SAT II's, I took them, but didnt submit them. Brown only required ACT's, and I didnt do the greatest on my SAT II's.
Bio-M: 690
Lit: 660
Math II: 650

Your stats are well above average. I love your commitment to various ECs.

Just wait patiently until the result comes out in mid Dec. Everthing is gonna be fine.

I hope you can be admitted by Brown in ED.

Just out of curiosity, my interest in Brown really was a result of taking the Summer@Brown course there.

How does that affect my chances? Do you think it will increase them at all?

^ Same here! Well, I was already planning on applying but Summer@Brown made me fall in love, lol. And yeah, I think that having been there and experienced stuff firsthand will help. Did you make your "Why Brown?" really personal and talk about your experiences?

Your numbers are great and your ECs make you look well-rounded but not generic. I'm impressed. Good luck!

Yeah, I did make my Why Brown about my experiences there. However...it was one of those last minute crunch things, ya know? I was doing it on Halloween night and I was really tired. I am just really nervous!

BTW, I saw your chances thread Poseur, nice! Very impressive to say the least!

Any other opinions?
I am getting more and more nervous by the day!

I also havent recieved an interview email/phone call yet. I know that not everyone gets one, but I am really hoping I get the opportunity.

And, the Application site says they still havent downloaded my final letter of rec, even though it has been in the common app system for at least a week. should i call, or are they just really backed up?

Don't worry. It usually takes them 1 or 2 weeks to process all the materials.

Brown starts to read the applications on 1st Dec, so there is still plenty time.

As for interview, I talked to my interviewer and he said the interviewer needed to submit the interview report to Brown before 1st Dec. Therefore, just wait patiently, if there is any interviewer in your area, he will email you to schedule an interview soon.

Good luck!

Do they really begin reading on Dec. 1? How does that give them enough time to go through the thousands of ED apps?

I dont think theres thousands of ED apps, i would guess more like 500-600.
So, figure give them 10 days, thats 50-60 apps a day. with a few readers thats very manageable.

But i didnt know they didnt start reading till the first. thats good. I though i was missing out on mine being looked at because all of my things werent in. but i will just wait paitently :)

Oh, does anyone have other opinions on my chances?

:)

I'm almost certain they start reading applications as soon as possible.

From their website:

Class of 2012
Early Decision Applications 2,453
Regular Decision Applications 18,180
Total Applications 20,633

Early Decision Acceptances 558
Early Decision Admit Rate 23%
Regular Decision Acceptances 2,182
Total Acceptances 2,835
Overall Admit Rate 13.7%

Just some useful info people could be interested in.

ACT scores came out today, i hope they superscore! (although I guess it doesnt technically matter)

I got a 33 composite
English: 35
Math: 32
Reading: 33
Science 30

My first time, I got a 32 composite:
English: 31
Math: 29
Reading: 33
Science: 33

Superscoring gives me a 33.25, 1 point away from a 34! :(
Oh well, my 33 isnt too bad.

I just asked the professors who taught my class at Brown this summer to write me letters.
How much weight do you think these will carry?
