WHY NYU???

Hi, I am applying ED2 to NYU but im really stuck on the why NYU supplement. Any tips or suggestions??

Write about why you want to attend NYU.

Are you sure that you can afford it? NYU doesn’t give a lot of FA. If you’re not so sure about NYU–if you can’t identify reasons to attend that school over all of the others–then maybe try another school . . .just a thought.

I think the key is to talk about how you will thrive there given what what NYU has to offer. They already know all about what makes them great–you need to tell them how you specifically will take advantage of their programs and facilities
.

NYU is a very distinct school (in NYC, no campus etc.) – if you can’t explain why you like it perhaps it isn’t the best choice.

If you’re applying ED2, I’m assuming you REALLY want to go there. Why? My advice would be to go talk to a parent or friend and just…talk about why you love NYU enough to commit to ED. What specifically makes it your ED school over literally any other school. Get into details–programs, specifics, things you’ve read about/heard about from research or tours. You can talk about New York (I did), but be very careful to not just say “I want to go to NYU because it’s in New York” because there are a lot of schools in New York and its location is not the only thing that makes NYU special–and if you think it is, maybe give a little more thought into where you’re already committing to spending 4 years.

@wonderlanddd Did you get accepted?

I did, I’m currently a sophomore!

Wonderlandd, How much did u have to pay? And are you OOS? I want to go, but I can’t afford it without some serious aid

NYU is private so it doesn’t matter if you’re OOS except if you qualify for a few of their programs for HEOP or CSTEP which are for New York State residents (for the record, I’m not). They gave me a pretty big scholarship but it’s very well known that they aren’t very good with aid. Run the net calculator and apply if it’s something you really want and you can afford the application fee, but be ready to not get much.

@wonderlanddd What school within NYU are you attending? And what were your stats if you don’t mind sharing

CAS and something like 3.93 (I think? it was a while ago) and 33 ACT. But honestly people put too much weight on stats, I know people way below and people way above me.
