"Why Rice?" Essay Question

What is looked for in the "Why Rice?" essay question (doesn't specifically say why rice but it's something like that). I'm completely at a loss of how to start this essay.

This prompt: The quality of Rice's academic life and the Residential College System is heavily influenced by the unique life experiences and cultural traditions each student brings. What perspective do you feel that you will contribute to life at Rice?

Just talk about what you will to contribute to Rice outside of taking up a seat in a classroom-I wrote about my interests/hobbies, as well as how I grew up with a variety of students of different ethnic backgrounds

Check out this thread - lots of excellent suggestions about how to approach a question like this.

So I should bring in how my environment makes me unique? For example, I live in a college town so I should bring in how it contrasts with Houston.

What's the typical length for this essay? Mine's sitting at around 450 words and I'm wondering if it's too short.
