Why should YOU receive this scholarship instead of any other applicant?

^^^^ How do you answer this question??????

If you were in a position to hire/fire people; Allocate money or services, send people to war or to peace; How would you choose?

The point of this question in my opinion is not to disregard other applicants but to raise their outlook on you. You have to convince them that you deserve the scholarship. You don't need to mention anything about other applicants and being more deserving than others.

My son has debated on how to answer that question, as well. He was never sure if he should focus on financial reasons, academic reasons, or what. In one he focused on how a music major (which he is) must spend hours a day practicing if he wishes to get a job in his field, and that his dedication to music leaves him little time for part-time work, so that a scholarship would allow him to dedicate more time to music. However, I really don't know if that was what they wanted or not. (haven't heard back on that one yet)

^that's kind of how I think one should answer. As in, why/how will not getting this scholarship impact you
