Why so many of us got rejected at trinity RD.

I was rejected... Trinity was my safety university but apparently this year was the most competitive in the college's history, or so it states in the rejection letter. I hope some of you would confirm this for me. The applicant pool was over 7000 thousand and only 600 got in, so that turns trinity's original 30% acceptance rate into a 8,5% acceptance rate, which is less than many ivies. I hope this info made the situation clearer for everyone. It did to me.

That kind of drop in admissions statistics is unheard of. Frankly, it’s impossible. I’d re-check your numbers.

Bad math. Trinity has a ~25% yield rate (the percentage of accepted students who actually enroll). So they need to accept about 2400 to net to 600. Rounding numbers: 2400/7000 = 34%

What were your stats, OP? just out of curiousity ^_^

I wasnt quite aware that the yield rate was so low at trinity. I dont think thats the case for the rejectiom letter clearly states that this was the most competitive year and the year with most applicants in the college’s history. I dont think colleges can lie to our faces just to make us feel better (or can they?). Im just trying to rationalize the fact that so many people ive heard got rejected at trinity. At most the acceptsnce rate must have lowered to 15% or something like that. 34% is last years acc rate. Besides, you still got to take into account all waitlisted applicants.
Thats just my opinion. I may most certainly be wrong.

By the way, if you wanna see my stats, my chance me post it this:http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1627612-chance-me-asap-chance-back-guaranteed.html#latest

Its all there

What. Just. Happened!?!
Trinity was my ONLY safety school! This is surreal!
Not looking forward to the 27th now AT ALL! Way to ruin a person’s confidence.

how does it work those wait listed?

Good luck OP at the other great colleges you applied to, we all know its harder every year, but you never know:) I am too international 2210 and wait listed-

I’m pretty sure the acceptance rate was not 15%, but was in the 30’s. The link below has the last 15 years.

http://www.trincoll.edu/AboutTrinity/offices/InstitutionalResearchPlanning/Documents/Admissions.pdf

Yes, it sucks that you weren’t admitted. I hope you get good news from other schools in the coming days.

In terms of the waitlist, they admitted 295 off the waitlist 2 years ago, but only 33 last year. However, they offered more people admission last year than 2 years ago (2600 vs. 2100). The waitlist only comes into play if enrollment falls below 600, or whatever the exact number is that is targeted. The waitlist is not ranked, so they choose people off the waitlist to round out the class. If they need an Asian female oboe player, that’s who they will pick.

If you’re waitlisted and you have other options, I’d go with another option. Love the school that loves you. Good luck.

.

Lollife: that was exactly what happened to me. Trinity was my only safe school and to i have to wait till the 27 for columbia, cornell and dartmouth… All at once and at the same hour! Yeah, my confidence is pretty much underground. But what can we do? Wll have to wait

I know the acc rate was in the 30’s last year. Im saying this year it must have dropped to something like 15%. Taking into consideration all the information I could gather.

This may seem like a stupid question. But what do you mean with OP? Yeah, im not from around town so I just dont understand all the terminology. Im doing my best to ajust, though

render142: Oh hey, I’ve applied to Cornell and Dartmouth too! But what I REALLY want to do is get into Princeton or UChicago (got wait-listed)! So, yeah…
Also, I think being international applicants with a high need for financial aid will probably be the death of us.

Death indeed! Yet… Dartmouth and cornell are need blind for int students sl if we are lucky enlugh to compite, we wont be ruled out for lack of budget. Letd hope for the best we have no other choicw

OP is Original Poster, aka the one who made the thread

@render142—while Cornell is need blind, they do not guarantee to meet all need for internationals.

http://www.finaid.cornell.edu/sites/default/files/International%20Financial%20Aid%20FAQs%208-6-12.pdf

“Due to our limited funds we cannot provide funding to all admitted international students that demonstrate financial need.”

render142: Why do you think I applied to those two too? :stuck_out_tongue:
Princeton is need-blind too. LOVE PRINCETON!

Best of luck, youu!

Hahaa thanks thanks… Im mistaken the . I know for a fact that dartmouth is need blind for int students. Maybe columbia is too not cornell, im not quite sure

I faced the same problem, guys. As we are int’ls with extremely high financial need, admission is very tough(whether it’s Williams or Trinity).
2300+SAT, 111 TOEFL.EXTREMELY HIGH NEEDS (FC<5k). REJECTED.

Let’s just hope for the best.Still, good luck to every int’l who applied to US colleges.
