Hi, can someone (or a few different people) please read and my why swarthmore essay for my transfer application? Any advice on how I can make it better would be greatly, greatly appreciated.

Also, a question: if I applied early decision last fall, should I include that somewhere in the essay or somewhere else in the application? Would the admissions committee care, or take that into consideration? Actually I should probably just call the office and ask.

Did you...get in early and then turn it down or something?

I'm not sure how it would help or hurt you. I guess talking to the admissions department would probably be best.

I'd be happy to read your essay if you need someone to. :] I just wrote one when I applied ED1, and I've read a lot of other accepted ED1 essays. <3

Nah, deferred. I just thought it might call attention to the fact that I really want to go there. Or something. I just found it odd that Swarthmore didn't ask on the application if I had applied there previously, since the other applications I have seen did.

I'll be glad to read your essay, though I can't promise to be helpful.

I definitely think it wouldn't hurt to mention your ED application, either in the application itself or in a short attached letter. It seems like Swarthmore is a place where it makes a huge difference if they think that you really want to go there, and between applying ED and now as a transfer you've shown about as much commitment as anyone could. (Transfer applicants can't do ED, right? It might look sort of odd to be showing off how much you wanted to go there last year, without the same thing this year if the opportunity was there. Same thing goes if you got accepted in the regular round after being deferred and chose another school. Basically, show off that Swarthmore was always your first choice, unless there is a time when they know that it wasn't.)
