Why U Miami when got accepted in UF ??

Do you want to fit in any more uneducated bias?

Knights09 - You are not a parent, a Florida resident, or a student at either of these schools, yet you are answering on the parent’s forum. What is the basis of your arguement?

For those who do have some insider information, biased or otherwise, is this the case? Do you really get more personalized attention at UM and easier access to advisors and opportunities over UF? My eldest graduated UF and I can honestly say, although it is a good school, what everyone says about it is not incorrect. There is a tremendous party mentality there. You really do much better there if you are a motivated student who is proactive with all aspects of your life. I wonder if my son, who is not a proactive type, would be better off at a private university.

I can certainly reply to a thread wherever I desire. Part of my argument is that I am getting a little tired of the claim that at “big state Us” no one will ever give you any attention. That’s completely false.

The post just ticked me off. Typical private bias in a private/public argument. UVW offers no evidence to support his/her reasoning. I am aware that UF has a big partying element - but the fact remains that one needs to have good grades to get in. I haven’t exactly heard that the nightlife is dead at UMiami either, for what it is worth. There are plenty of smart people at UF. They have a 94% retention rate - excellent for a big state school.

No career guidance? Princeton Review says otherwise.

Little or no recruiting? A list of UF’s top employers:

Lockheed-Martin
GE
Teach for America
Deloitte
Ernst and Young
KPMG
RIM

My point is that if you’re going to offer an opinion, offer an educated one or don’t offer one at all.

I want to thank each one of you for your valuable input.

My son has decided, and he chose UF. Let us hope things work out for him at Gainesville.

Regards
