Why was I denited early decision to Rice University? Rice Students, please reply.

I appreciate all of you guys support! I guess I kinda knew I didn’t have a strong change of admission anyway. Deep deep… DEEP down I knew that my grades were not bad but also not on par with the average Rice admitted student. I guess I was hoping I was going to be one of those few that get accepted despite a lower GPA and test scores than the average applicant. I’ll try my best freshman year in college and try again. But, I need to also think realistically and seriously consider my other college options.

Low SAT’s and GPA. Do well in your first year of undergrad and transfer!
I feel the same way about Rice
Best wishes!!!

I’m sorry you didn’t get in, but there’s something admirable about your determination. Good luck :)

gggot 'em.

I’m not sure if that’s admirable or self-destructive. Setting oneself up to fail is not one of the hallmarks of wisdom.

That said, if the OP is still determined to get in, getting high grades in difficult courses is the way to make up for the weak academic background in high school.

Work hard on your writing.
You will have a much better chance in your transfer application if you can present your ideas clearly and articulately, without incorrect or questionable word usage and syntax.

I agree with the previous poster(s).

You have a very VERY low SAT, and your EC’s aren’t stellar, and neither is your GPA. My advice–do exceptionally well (4.0+) in your first semester of college, retake your SAT, and spend more time on EC’s.

Good luck!
