Why was I rejected?

Hello. I am a high school senior and recently got rejected from UC Irvine with a business economics major. I have a 3.8 weighted gpa. 2000 SAT. 31 ACT. Took many AP Classes. Got a 4 on APUSH and 3 on English. I have various officer positions like Key club, national beta club, and other positions. I was wondering why I got rejected from UCI. I only got into UCR and waitlisted from UCSB.
thank you.

Any advice would be nice thanks.

No one can give you a definite answer to why you got rejected. It can be from a variety of things.

Just know that things will work out in the end and don’t get too distraught over to why you may have been turned away. Focus on your bright future.

@OneDeaged if i call the admissions office will they give me reasons? or anything?

No my friend called they just gave her generic answers like how they have a bunch of applicants but not enough space blah blah. Your GPA is kind of low. AP tests aren’t counted toward admission but yours aren’t that great. Maybe not enough volunteering or a so so personal statement? If only you were Hispanic…

Bad luck, tough admission year, nothing spectacular, 3.8 weighted isn’t that strong (in fact, I believe it’s below the 50%) and UCI values GPA over test scores from what I’ve seen. It’s probably your GPA + business econ being a semi-competitive major. I wouldn’t be too surprised, not to be mean or rubbing salt in your wounds, but bluntly put I would say your acceptance chance was only as high as your rejection chance. Getting rejected shouldn’t be such a great shock, although I know it’s disappointing.

It’s not your fault, don’t be sad! I think UCI is crazy this year, they admitted many students with SAT between 1600-1700. Some even as lower than 1600

If I appeal with new facts would I have a better chance? I got a 4.5 GPA on my first semester senior year. Would they look at my senior grades? And I also have new awards and positions as well.

My daughters GPA and SAT are higher than yours. Just chalked it up to the admission gods and moved on. With a 3.8 weighted GPA and many AP’s it means you got a couple of C’s under your belt. That normally hurts.
