I was actually rejected to both UC irvine and davis. I applied as a Math major. These are my stats:

2300SAT
700lit 800mathII

3.2UW gpa, 3.5UC gpa (my gpa got progressively worse though - i had 3 C’s and only 1 A my junior year)

but still, I saw people accepted with lower or comparable grades AND lower SAT’s.

My ec’s were decent - some volunteer experience, and participation in a few clubs.
And my essays were ok too, though maybe eccentric, I’m not sure.

Some people, despite having lower GPA than you, are increasing their GPA since freshman year while taking harder courses (increasing AP courses or honor courses or IB courses). I’m not sure if the scores you get on your AP exams effect anything… Also in my school, some people believe that the essays play a huge role as well. Why not try appealing to both schools?

I think the GPA did it, especially if it got worse. Mine started good, got to mostly B’s, then went up (even though I took more demanding loads). The EC’s might not have helped. I also didn’t have really good EC’s, but one of them took place at UC Davis, so that helped.

this thread doesn’t have much of a point. I was just looking for sympathy…

Anyways thanks for the responses. I could appeal, that’s true. I could also just apply again next year, with my senior grades (which are a bit better), Ap scores, and better personal statements. Or I could just go to UCSC, which I thankfully got into.

I wonder if it would be possible to apply regularly (not as a transfer student) even if I go to UCSC for a year.

94% of UC Davis freshman had a unweighted GPA of 3.25 or higher for 2010…

You have a 3.2… so that is likely the reason.

Reapplying might be a good thing. I started out at Seton Hall University and earned a 3.92 GPA whereas, my highschool GPA was a 2.7 (I got a 1.67 my freshman year) and now just got accepted to a lot of schools that either waitlisted me or flat out denied me last year. Either way, good luck and keep at it.
