Most Likely in at UT-Austin
The others I would give you a very far reach. Your SAT is very low, which makes your 3.8 GPA also look low, even if your school is prestigious.

Just because of an SAT score? I Knew a student who got into JHU with a score of 1970

But you don’t even have that and are hoping for schools of a higher caliber than JHU as well. You may have taken 6 math courses, but nearly everyone applying to these schools has taken precalculus and calculus, often at the AP level.

My score is subject to change, did you not read…

@Stew - Low my A#@
sorry for blowing up but a score of 1870 is not low. Sorry but not everyone can be like you, not everyone can get 2000+ on the SAT.
1870 is a pretty solid score.
@ OP
you chould always use college view.com
[Test Requirements & Scores for The University of Chicago](http://www.collegeview.com/schools/the-university-of-chicago/testscores)
type in the college your interested in, go to school facts, test scores and look at the charts. It can give you an iea about the avg SAT/ACT scores most students have in that college.

unless you have tons of extracurricular achievements and something unique about yourself from everyone else, your chances of getting into Chicago I believe are very very slim.
however, who knows? Anything can happen.

I wish you luck

On these threads, we talk with regard to the particular schools. For all of these schools, except for UT, that is a VERY low SAT score. He asked his chances at particular schools and I told him the truth. An 1870 is higher than the national average of course and is not a bad score. But at these schools, it is extremely below average. Seeing as that you only have made one post, I wouldn’t start off by swearing and being obnoxious.

Thank you!
I also want to know if theres anyway I can improve my stats?
Please, I feel like all of you are just looking at my SAT score and not at the entire package. College admissions reps don’t just look at scores, they look at the overall. So please, stop zoning into my score and say, “Oh, well you don’t have a perfect SAT score, Your screwed”.

I mean, how many teenagers can say they are going to be doing biomedical research in the fall and, are going to have their name published in a nationwide Scientific journal??

and to the OP, yes. You are still lower than the 1960 by a pretty decent amount and Penn is much harder than JHU to gain acceptance to, Chicago is probably a little harder than JHU as well. If you can raise your test score you could have a better chance but I wouldn’t count on getting into any of these schools, except maybe UT-Austin.

I would give less credence to those SAT scores. Pretty much everything about you is stellar. If you can really make yourself stand out with your essays and your recs, you should be fine.

So guys, please read the entire post before blasting me.

Thanks nick

Lol, um I’m a girl stewta4

However the way you typed it, it seemed like you made her score sound very poor in general.
@ OP
no one is blasting you
I was blasting @ steve
anyways
that last fact you stated itself is already pretty unique and sets yourself away from most people already.
I would just continue to do more extracurricular activities.
I don’t have anything else to suggest
however when you are writing your essays for the colleges you want to apply
I suggest that you write with your own personal voice. There are many college aplicants and colleges don’t have time to meet each and every one of you personally. So you want to leave a good honest impression of yourself in your essay’s. Don’t be generic and strictly talk about your achievements in class. If able, talk more about yourself.
Colleges don’t just want smart people, they want people with character, people that can do something for the college.

Yeah, @Bluebisson

I’m trying to find my niche. I’m expecting my sat score to be alot higher than my previous score, but I haven’t recieved them yet.

I am looking at the whole package.
“I mean, how many teenagers can say they are going to be doing biomedical research in the fall and, are going to have their name published in a nationwide Scientific journal??”
Not that this isn’t great, it is and it does make you stand out, but frankly, you’d be surprised.
Your EC’s are good, slightly better than average(for these schools once again), but the schools you are looking at all have applicants with just as good, or better ECs.
Your test score is low. It is below the 25th percentile at JHU, which has lower test scores than Penn and Chicago and the most of the people accepted below the 25th percentile either have 4.0’s with a lot of AP classes or some extremely fantastic EC that has been very involved for years with leadership positions, etc.

Your GPA isn’t anything special and may be a little below average.
Your rank is average.
I can’t really tell about your class rigor, but almost everyone that applies to these schools takes pre-calc and calc and you really should have taken some AP tests. (You don’t have to take an AP class to take the test, if your classes are college level you would be qualified to take the respective AP tests).
Sorry for calling you a boy, and none of this is meant to sound mean hearted. I’m giving you my honest opinion. I might be wrong, but I am fairly informed about this type of stuff, although I would not call myself extremely qualified to make judgements, I wouldn’t say I am unqualified. You asked for my two cents and you got it ;] Good Luck

well just don’t get discouraged at all.
your bright and you’ll go far, I have no doubt about that at all. :]
If you do get into the college you want- fantastic!
If you don’t-don’t think of it as a bad thing.

In my opinion I think that it doesn’t really matter where you go to college, rather what you get out of it.
Success is not defined by the college you get into
that’s just a path from Point A to Point B
There are many different ways to get into that future career you want.

What i’m trying to say is that, don’t be disappointed if you don’t get into the college that you really want…
not sure if that came out right.

sometimes you have to look at life and certain issues from different perspectives.

Anyways I wish you success and hope you get into the college of your course!

It’s not that your SAT is horribly horrible, but combined with your unweighted GPA and not-remarkable ECs, it does detract substantially. Also, all of those schools (except UT-Austin) have extremely high rates of students in the top 10% of their class, barring problems that the student can explain away. You have neither a top 10% spot nor reasons to explain that (as far as we know here on CC). So putting those all together, yes, your chances at all of those schools (except UT-Austin) are extremely low.

No one is trying to be mean or rude here. We are just trying to help. Applying to only one match school and many safeties will be very risky come this college season, because honestly, your chances at all of the schools except UT-Austin are pretty much below 1-2% (They have admit rates of between 10%-20% and that’s with many qualified applicants, so with less-than-qualified stats, your chances are not all that great).

Perhaps look at some state schools or maybe middle tier schools.

OK, so heres what I’m getting from you guys.

My SAT score is bad (Please, Please tell me you read the disclamer: MY SAT SCORE IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE, I HAVENT RECEIVED THE RECENT SCORES FOR THE JUNE SAT TEST. Ohmygoodness)

My extracirrucluar activities are not stellar: Being in first band, first chair, all city participate is basically crap. Being a researcher is crap.

and my gpa and rank sucks.

alright, well do you guys have any suggestions as to how to improve?

I agree with born2dance

you should apply for maybe one or two state school
or something like that.

@cherry
I for one am not suggesting that at all

while some of your activities like band, and lets say, volunteering at hospitals isn’t exactly stellar, other activities you engage in are.
It’s a impressive resume
