By the way: I read in an article on admissions that being well lopsided is better than being well rounded. (Note this is from an accredited person who is very well informed on admissions)

What that basically means is that college adms don’t care if you’re in a bazillion clubs and organizations. they want you to focus on what you love and stick to it. So that’s why I’m not in bajillion ecs. I don’t want them to think that I’m just trying to impress them, I’m trying to show them that I’m dedicated and I love music and science, and that’s that.

As for my GPA, if you took the classes I took, you’d be beggin for a 3.8.

true true and you do have a point :]
it’s better to dig deep rather then dig wide.
With that mindset I really don’t think you’ll have to worry much.

A disclamer for the next few people who are going to comment: PLEASE, I SAID MY SOCRE IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE!!! THATS NOT A SCORE I’m going to send in.

thank you :)

Okay, I’ve been very polite (as has everyone else) up until now, but you’ve been extremely defensive. So I’ll respond honestly to a few things.

I take the hardest course load possible (this year was all AP and honors) at a public school rated within the top 180 in the country that has 30+ Ivy acceptances alone each year. And I have a 3.99, so no I’m not begging for a 3.8.

Actually, research is very popular nowadays. I am doing Neurology research this summer with a well-known person in the field whose previous two summer students were Intel semi-finalists. And every person in the research program at my school is required to do summer lab research, and I know over 20 additional students doing it.

A) But it’s not likely to go from an 1870 to a 2200+ unless you did some dang serious studying.

B) Most of those schools (I know Penn in particular) don’t accept score choice, so they will automatically see all of your scores, including that one.

And at Stew:

I know you’re just trying to provide positive feedback, but I disagree on your opinion on the EC’s:

I’ve stuck to the two things I love and I am A LEADER in both activities. Thank you very much.

Hey, is your SAT score by any chance subject to change? I don’t have any idea from your posts…

Borntodance
believe me I know. I also go to a top tier highschool. the classes are far from easy.

Yeah, marlon

I took the kaplan thingy and it went up to a 2100…so that’s what I am expecting.

Also, you seem super confident that you’re a strong candidate. What’s the point of putting a chance thread if you won’t take any criticism or advice? Yes you research and play cello. Tough ****- that’s the lives of about 30000 other kids in this country. You aren’t different, and your scores, subject to change or not, aren’t helping that right now. What can make you different is true passion- but right now you’re just bragging about leadership and being first chair.

I was being really sarcastic. The fact that you answered that post seriously is worrying me.

@OP Maybe, but I can guarantee you that unless you go to a near impossible school, I’d have basically the same grades at your school as mine. My 2330 vs your 1870 also matches up with our GPA differences. That’s not to be rude, but just to show that no, I would not be begging for a 3.8 at your school.

And seeing as how you are not top 10%, obviously those kids who are in the top decile managed to get 3.8+ and not beg for it.

Noones bragging sweetie. It’s a post. I am taking your criticism silly. :)

I SAID YOUR ECS ARE BETTER THAN AVERAGE. THEY ARE VERY GOOD. However, they are not so super amazing spectacular as to completely make up for your academics. And I concur with born2dance about the GPA, your class rigor doesn’t seem that hard. I have taken all honors at two highly rated high schools and the only AP I have been offered(I was the only one in the class of 30 to get an A) and I have a 4.0. MOST people at all of these schools would never be begging for a 3.8 and hate to say it, but MANY have a much harder schedule than you.
I think your personal information and ECs can boost you, so I would say you are a reach, maybe 10-30% chance, you should still apply. But stop being so defensive. You clearly are unaware of what this forum is intended for.

Hmmm, ok. I guess so. WTH, I am not being defensive. Just trying to inform you guys of my accomplishments so you guys came make the best decision

You guys are the ones getting so emotional.
Stop crying.

:)

ALSO, you yourself claim to have gone to a less intense high school for freshman and sophomore years, which make up the majority of your GPA, so clearly you haven’t had as hard of a schedule as you make it out to be.

hmmm true. I didn’t consider that. but eh, I made up for that junior and senior year.

Idk about that though. Because if these schools all have around 20% or less admit rates, her chances wouldn’t be so high, seeing as how she doesn’t match up for SATs (even 25th percentile) and her GPA/rank isn’t so high (though not bad by most standards). Not to mention her ECs are decent, but at these schools they will be seeing some incredible ECs.

But I do agree with what you said about applying. If the OP truly wants to apply so badly, then she should. BUT!!! She also needs at least 4 or 5 matches and safeties (combined). And REAL matches and safeties, not like those mentioned in the post.

This is not sarcasm: you seem intelligent. We are also intelligent. This means that we see right through your completely sarcastic and immature smiley faces, calling us sweetie, and the overall child like self-defense mechanisms.

Borntodance:

You’re getting too emotional in this post! At what point did I upset you?

CALM DOWN!! you don’t even know me…crazy

What in the world? No one is being childish.

If you guys can state your rude opinions, I can most definetly disrespect all of you. This simply a chance post, not a “Lets get all emotional because we don’t like her post”

If you don’t like what I’m saying turn off the computer, and go to sleep. How many times have I asked you guys “HOW CAN I IMPROVE” and I took your opinions full-heartly.

This is so funny, watch type the most insane things, hmph.
