<p>Lafayette gives only 500 characters and no chance to upload file. So I should send them an essay via mail or just use commonapp?</p>

<p>Other colleges give chances to upload (they also give 500 characters in commonapp). What should I do?</p>

<p>500 words isn't short it my opinion, go with 200 or less.</p>

<p>If they give you 500 characters, you should write 500 characters. They have a requirement for a reason...</p>
