Do you think it would hurt me or help me to skip the song and dance of an essay and simply bullet key points? I could even add a note at the top like "bulleted to avoid excess". AdComs have enough stuff on their hands and I can only imagine how horrible it has to be to read thousands of flowery "Why X" essays when they could just be given concise, specific points.

Are you joking? I’ll assume not. Stay mainstream. Follow the conventions for college applications. There is a time and place for novel ideas – but it’s not for something as important as college applications.

Well, I’ve been scrolling through some “Why X” threads and there are a lot of people pumping out 500+ words on essays that are “highly recommended” to be under 200 and even under 100.

Do not stay mainstream. But stay out of mainstream in a good way. College essays are most certainly a place for being unique, but being terse is not a good form of that. While I find your idea interesting, I think it would be pretty risky. Rather than putting your reasons in bullets, put them in well formed and developed paragraphs.

i would do this for a massive reach school. like an unbelievable reach.

for example: the guy who did the “i’m an x, flew to x, invented x, but i have yet to go to college.” (accepted to nyu)

but i don’t think it shows creativity (or your writing ability), unlike the person who wrote this nyu essay.

Haha, I thought of doing this too!
