For the Why Yale question, how serious is keeping to the 50 word limit?

I would say you should stick under 75 words for SURE and try to keep it around 50. They are basically asking for 2 or 3 sentences maximum...I'm pretty sure the Why Yale? won't be a make or break question if it's decent.

i actually thought they cut u off after the 50th word...So i just kept it below

Mine response was around 100 words, and I couldn't get it down to any less than that. Honestly, I think anything that's a short paragraph is fine.

However, I was deferred EA--I just sincerely doubt it was because of my "long" Why Yale response.

They obviously aren't looking for an essay if the limit is set at 50 words. They want to make sure you know what's going on and that you aren't just applying b/c of the prestige is all. Just don't express interest in a program that doesn't exist or talk about how you love Harvard and you will be fine. I repeat: this is not an essay.

my response was 73 words (don't worry, i only remember that because i have the rough draft saved with "73" written on it lol), and it went through just fine. just make sure to click print-preview on the common app to make sure it doesnt cut off- if it cuts off it will show you on the print preview.

i got into yale ea, so having a longish why yale can't hurt that much.

Mine was 50 and I got in EA. So, don't feel compelled to write more just because the space is there, either.
