Why you chose Stanford over HYP?

THought it would interesting to see the many reasons as to why.

Because. That’s why.

Palm trees. Stanford has palm trees and the others do not. All four offer an excellent education.

Palm trees?Really?lol

Better in the departments in which I’m interested, strong interdisciplinary focus, proximity to parents (I live in SoCal so the campus is pretty far, but not too much so), large campus (so I don’t feel trapped for 4 years), laid back reputation.

Very close, been there a lot so understand and learned to love the atmosphere, spirit of the students even during dead week, the beautiful campus, relaxed, very social students (so many of them hang out in the whiteplaza campaigning for everything all the time), really good biodepartment, helps a lot for getting into medschool, the traditions, etc…so basically it comes down to I know nothing about the rest of the schools.

Weather, Engineering, nanotechnology, apple, the rest of silicon valley, extremely strong programs either side of the humanities/sciences divide means that people will be more broad and finally animal mascots are lame, and Harvard doesn’t have the Tree

Tree + Unique campus + Engineering powerhouse + laidback undergrad course load + sunny Sillicon Valley

Duhh. Who wouldn’t pick Stanford?

the people

How could I ever forget the tree

The people at Stanford seem to be more modest. At least on CollegeConfidential.com.

Silicon Valley

I believe it is THE university of the future because of its role in technology development and its strong interdisciplinary focus in the humanities.

All the students seem incredibly excited to be there, and so the campus vibe is very upbeat and energetic.

Winters in NJ, CT, and especially MA are cold and gray. Weather affects mood and happiness. Palo Alto weather is WAY nicer.

The socio-economic composition of the student body is more middle class. There seems to be less snobbery, less arrogance, less entitlement mentality. Certainly there aren’t any eating clubs where your parents’ status and income determines the membership, and that sort of thing.

The sports!!!

Which is another way of saying Palm Trees.

Stanford > Pton for me

Stanford’s stronger in my major (geosciences)
Stanford’s student body is totally awesome
Stanford’s size and location

and also, not a big fan of the eating club scene at Pton.
