S has been accepted at OWU and right now it's one of his top choices. We visited in Jan., but it was a Sunday and most students weren't around on campus. Would appreciate some feedback on the students at OWU. Academically, it's a great fit --feel like he will be challenged and very well educated there. He's very into indie rock music (plays guitar), art (plans to double major in photo), hangs out with the less popular ("smart kids") crowd. More hipster, but not in an intellectualy superior kind of way --would rather sit around laughing with friends about nothing important than debate issues.

Just trying to get a good read on the campus feel since there's a good chance he won't be able to get back to visit btw. now and decision time May 1. Thanks for any input!

Should I take this as a no? Just received their FA package last night. Still looks like a fantastic option for him even if he is the ONLY “Indie kid” on campus lol! He’ll carve out his own nitch ;)

jkiwmom – It has been a couple of years since I visited the OWU campus. At that time there was certainly a smattering of kids who, judging only by outward appearance, might be described as “indie.” So, my impression is that he would be far from the ONLY “indie kid” on campus. On the other hand, the dominant style of dress I observed was what I’d call “midwest prep” with a lot of fraternity/sorority garb.

^^thanks, this helps!

Hi…OWU also high on my DD list. She is going for an overnight visit this weekend…she would be happy to give your son a “read” on the students. She is pretty liberal in outlook, a true artistic type…so she may be able to tell your son how she feels about it if you like??
Feel free to send us a message privately if you want.

mthopefulmom – How was your daughter’s overnight at OWU? We’ll be out in Ohio next week and D2 is planning to visit OWU on Monday and Denison on Tuesday. This daughter is her own person, dresses fairly conventionally but with a bit of an edge and is a prospective theater major. It will be interesting to see how she feels about the respective campuses.

hudsonvalley51…I am SO sorry that I did not see your post!! My DD, also a perspective theatre major, LOVES OWU. She came back from the overnight very excited about everything she saw and was sure that is where she wanted to go. DD is definetely her own person. Very independant but likes to “fit in” too and she felt that at OWU. She is still deciding between OWU and another school but is definatley leaning toward OWU…even though their theatre program is not exactly what she is looking for…she feels that she can make her own type of program. Please let me know what your D thought. Dennison was also one of DD thoughts, but she choose to not apply.
