I am a freshman at a CCC. This summer I took 6 units (econ and speech) and got As in both.
This semester I am taking 15 units; all are going flawlessly, except calculus. It is 5 units, and I think I may get a C.

How does USC look at Ws? Do they count in your GPA? What's the deal with that? Will it hurt my chances even if I just have one?

Would it be better if I dropped the class and took it in the 5 week long winter intersession and got an A or B? Would it affect my chances of getting in as a junior?

W's do look bad though if you don't have an excuse for it because basically anyone that is getting a bad grade could just drop and get a "W". Generally, you should explain yourself and why you took a W.

For me, I'm taking a class at a local CC along with my University classes and just got into a car accident so I no longer have reliable transportation and may have to get a W.

Well all schools have deadlines for dropping with a W. Besides, that person is only delaying their transfer/graduation if they constantly take classes for W's.

But I guess it'd be smart to explain the W to be on the safe side. I just wouldn't worry about it because they really don't affect you, especially if you got the W for a non-academic reason.
