Will ACT hurt admissions chances?

I have a 2310 single sitting on the SAT and a 31 on the ACT single sitting, both of which I'll have to submit in accordance with Penn's testing requirements. Will the 31 damage my chances of admission despite the 2310 on the SAT?

I think the more important question is… how do you get a 31 on the ACT with a 2310 SAT??

I dunno, bad day I suppose. I took the ACT earlier in junior year and the SAT later.
Also, if it helps:
ACT: 33R, 34M, 28E w/10 Essay, 27S
SAT: 770M, 790CR, 750W w/10E

Honestly, if you are required to send both, I would’ve registered for the September ACT (I think it’s too late now, even for late registration?) because a 750 W on SAT should be doing much better than a 28E on ACT, and you can definitely improve Science as well.

Eh, my thinking is that the school will disregard the ACT in favor of the superior SAT anyway. Seeing as how they don’t want to damage their prized testing averages.

@dopecake‌ So would OP’s ACT score hurt his/her chances? I’m in exactly opposite situation (my scores are lower than OP). My ACT score is good, but my SAT score is way below average of Penn.

I’m not qualified to answer that, but I doubt it, though if the SAT is WAY below the average it will probably be noticed. How will the school even know if you took the SAT/ACT if you opt only to send the other?

You’ll be fine, relax

Just study up and take the ACT again this fall. They’ll focus on the best scores.

@dopecake‌ but Penn requires both scores if you took both tests

I do not think it will hurt you to have a 31 ACT and a 2310 SAT. I think that if they say that they take the best one, they mean it.

There are a lot of reasons for a student to have an off day. It is a lot less likely to get a high score by just being lucky.
