I am wondering whether or not to check the box that indicates that I’m applying for financial aid. I am an int’l student. How will they even check what kind of financial situation i have though?

No, from what I have learned, it will not affect your chances of getting in at all. Because if you are admitted they will tell you how much financial aid you’re eligible to receive, if any. If you can attend with the assistance, than you attend, if you can’t, then you can’t attend.

For US Citizens and Permanent Residents, we are need-blind, and applying for financial aid will not affect your application review in any way. However, for international students, because we supply our own financial aid budget and don’t receive money from the US government for this budget, we are need-sensitive. If international Students are applying for financial aid and are accepted, we do meet 100% of need, but admissions are more selective for an international student applying for aid than for a student who is not. However, just checking the box saying you’re applying for financial aid does not qualify you for financial aid. You would need to fill out the CSS Profile or the International Student Application for Financial Aid to receive financial aid from Brandeis. If you are not applying for financial aid, you would need to fill out a certification of finances.
