Will be Moving Out of State Senior Year: Concerned about my Letters of Recommendation?

I hope this is the right forum to post this in, as it seems like the best fit for such a topic. I have gone to the same high school in Nevada for all my HS career, and will be moving up into Washington for my senior year. While I have no problem with the move, I'm concerned about how it's going to affect my letters of recommendation. I will have ZERO connections with anyone up there and I'm sure it will be next to impossible to find someone who can write me a good one. My APUSH teacher (whom I talked to outside of class a lot) told me that he would write me a good letter, however once I move I do not know how to go about asking him and actually having him write it. We had a very good relationship and I did very well in his class, and I also know seniors have asked him in the past for this too. Will I have to send/fax the information to him, and then he can send it out to the colleges? Or what will I have to do?

And are family members allowed to write letters of rec too? My cousin is a year ahead of me and said that our uncle wrote her a letter, and when I talked to him mentioned that he could write me one too.

Lots of questions, I know, but I am curious and I am hoping to send such requests out as soon as I can so they have time. Thanks for any advice. ^^

Talk to your teacher before you move or call/e-mail afterward. I’m sure they will still be willing to write the rec. No family members allowed.

Do not use a rec from a family member. Period. Email your teacher (if you have already moved) and ask if he is still willing to do it. Talk to your GC at your new school and ask if they can help upload the letter to the Common App or put them in touch with the teacher so he can do it (I am not sure how all that works, at our school it is tied into Naviance, but I know the GC was able to upload an external letter for a college for one of my kids). Some schools require 2 letters from teachers, so think about if you want to ask another teacher from your old school or not (check the schools you are applying to, see how many they need).
