Will being in a band help/hurt admission chances?

I realize adcoms are generally fairly liberal, and I know they want ‘diversity’ so should I put down that I am the dummer in a garage band or leave out? (I have a pretty impressive EC list, its just i want to stand out more i guess)

Since it's a simple garage band callaboration, I do not think I would put it down, personally.

It doesn't hurt :) Honestly IMO. Basically EC is what you spend your time doing and if you do that, put it down!

I have a rock garage band with friends where I am the bassist/rhythm guitarist. I'm even thinking about sending an album of ours when I apply next year.

After all, it really sets you apart from just doing symphony orchestras, school jazz bands, etc... everybody participates in those.

I play in symphonies, jazz bands, etc, and get recognition for that stuff, but I also make electronic music as a hobby that takes up quite a bit of my time. I didn't include it as an EC but I did make it part of the focus of my essay.

I taught myself how to play keyboards decently and now play in a band with two friends (bassist and drummer). I put it on my EC list and as my most significant personal activity. I might send in a cd with application.
