[Caltech: The Waiting List](http://caltech.typepad.com/caltech_as_it_happens/2009/05/the-waiting-list-1.html)

I had emailed an admission counselor and I got this reply:

“Thank you for your email. We have made the decision not to go to our
Waitlist this year. We will send official letters out tomorrow.”

Yes, the waitlist has been closed.

I won’t say I’m not disappointed, but in a way, I’m also glad to have a closure to all this.

Good luck to everyone else who (like me) was waiting to hear from Caltech.

On Parents Forum, someone said MIT is going to waitlist. Couldn’t that open places at Caltech?

We aren’t just at capacity, we’re over capacity–i.e., we’ve got a larger than intended class. Even if we lose some to other waitlists we probably still won’t need to fill spots.

@lizzardfire: So do you know how many students will matriculate or the number of students over capacity?

As dauntless said, we are currently expecting 257 frosh, which is ~8 more than was planned for.
