Will Chance Back! Chance Me for CMC, Barnard, Bryn Mawr, Columbia, Stanford, Cornell, UMich, Stern

@mendezgadm‌ Thanks but no, not URM or low income or anything

Thanks for the quick reply. I am a parent, but I have been posting for some feedback on my son’s summary. I am wondering how this evaluation of chances works. All comments inform the discussion, but do you know what experience, information, criteria, or other bases are being used by most to judge these chances?
You will clearly be successful wherever you attend college. I agree with those who suggest that you group your ECs. They evidence more of a variety and exploration, which young talented high school students should be doing, than a scatter, especially when organized differently on the App than here on the Post. Best of Luck with your applications. Thanks again for chancing.

In your application, it’d be extremely beneficial to establish why you want to pursue a major by referencing your prior experience. In your case, since music is something you are good at, you will need to say how that has made you pursue what you will be pursuing. This may seem hard in the beginning but with some creative thinking I am sure you will be able to do it.

@NotAPlusAsian‌ Thanks! I’m trying to get interviews at some of these schools but a lot of them are optional and never available :/

You have a good shot at CMC, even though it’s your most selective target (except Stanford). Your interest in international issues will be a plus, as will your curiosity about different interests. Both your essays and your on-campus interview will be important. I don’t see any advantage to using the Common Application, and you should use every opportunity to indicate your breadth. As others have commented, your capacity for leadership in whatever field you choose will be of paramount importance.

@CollegeBuff‌ Thanks but I can’t get an interview on campus! I’m from IL and flying out next week but all interviews for the summer were booked when I checked in May

By the way, if you pursue music it will be at Pomona or Scripps; no music courses are offered at CMC. There are performance opportunities at Pomona, Scripps, and the 4Cs.

@vballgurl‌ If you try to ask them through email or calls, and they don’t have interviews anyways, it tells them that you are interested in them. Somewhere I heard the admission officers keep files of whatever you did in relation with them, so show them that you really want to go to their school!

Just don’t go spamming their email boxes or call them several times, once is enough to show them. If you have any questions about the school, look at the official website first to answer your own questions, if you can’t, then you can use those unanswered questions for interviews!

Really solid and impressive application, one of the best I’ve seen. You’ve applied for highly selective schools, so admission should always be expected to be difficult, but I honestly can’t find a reason they’d reject you.

Visit the admission office in Kravis Center anyway. They might be able to squeeze in an interview, and at least they’ll have a record of your visit/interest.

Thanks for the chance! And I don’t know much about CMC, Barnard or Bryn Mawr. However, your ACT score looks decent for Umich, and I actually think your GPA is pretty decent for Umich. for the ivy leagues, i would say reach since most of their applicants have a higher gpa and score. you have great ec’s but my main question is do yuo have anything that shows you’re leaning towards business? I couldn’t tell what you were going to major in until I read some of those comments. I would suggest looking at internship opportunities or job shadowing in a business firm company of some sort, or DECA (a business oriented club offered at many schools) also see if you can take classes that would show interest. For example econ, business management (not sure if your school has it, mine has it), stats, or something else of the sort. good luck!

@worrywart2k15‌ Thanks! I’ve already taken AP econ and stats at my school and finished with As, I did DECA in 9th and 10th but it was a lot of time and money and I didn’t want to mention awards for it because I ended up quitting.

Stanford - Reach
Columbia - Reach
Cornell - Low reach/High match
UMich - Match

you have A LOT of ECs but i would suggest that you leave out those that you dont show too much interest or involvement in since you are over the limit. no matter what youre going to end up somewhere great so dont worry and good luck!

please chance me back!!!

@vballgurl You have a solid and I mean SOLID application here. You’re a match for all of the schools except the Ivies and Bryn Mawr. Those are all low reaches. Imo, applying to Cornell ED will give you a great chance at being accepted. Don’t forget to have a compelling essay along with excellent recommendations, bc sometimes these are the things that can make it or break it. I’m sorry about the common app issue, I’m sure if you contact them they can help,

@applesauce3‌ @alwayssona‌ Thanks!
