WILL CHANCE BACK!! From Notre Dame to Marquette to Duke

I am interested in studying chemistry in college while pursuing a career in medicine.
Here are some of my credentials:

Unweighted GPA: 3.86
Weighted GPA: 4.77
ACT Composite: 32 (got the same score 4 times, 34 superscored)
Class rank - 3/285 but this year my school got rid of class rank and wont be reporting it (yes I am peaved)
I go to a top tier private school, best in the area.
Income: Above 250k

I am a 4 year member of the varsity golf team. I am being recruited by mostly DII and DIII schools all over the country. Won a state championship this past season. I've received a bunch of honors and awards, like All Conference and Scholar Athlete.
I am also on the bass fishing team (actually a varsity sport.. who knew?) and we qualified for state this past season as well.

I am a member of Natural Helpers, National Honors Society, and Student Council. (4 years- President this year)
I am a member of the Mayor's Youth Council, a community action agency.
I have volunteered weekly for 4 years now in a program that helps disabled children play sports.
There are other community activities I've participated in and awards I've received, not as notable though. (ex. won ribbons at county fair, excellence achievement in select classes, etc.)

I have received straight A's (2 A-) and have been on the highest honor roll my past two years. My GPA is not higher because my freshmen year grades were pretty horrendous (3.1 UW GPA). I am taking the most rigorous schedule my high school has to offer (minus 2 extra AP classes), and by the time I graduate will have taken 9 AP classes. I have never taken anything lower than an honors class.

AP Classes so far: AP US History (5), AP Microeconomics (5), AP Macroeconomics (5)
AP Classes next year: Language and Composition, Physics, Chemistry, Calculus, Psychology, Government

This past summer I took 2 college chemistry classes at Northwestern University. I was the only non-Northwestern student in the class. I received an A in both classes. This will go on my transcript because they are credit as well.

Other than my counselor and teacher, I will have letters of recommendation from the mayor of my city (150k population) as well as one of the most renown chemistry professors in the country.

My essays are good, but not amazing. I am a fairly strong writer, but for some reason I found it hard to find a hook with my life.

These are the schools that I plan on applying to:
Michigan (already applied early action)
Marquette
Illinois (legacy and in-state)
Kentucky (honors program)
Notre Dame
Northwestern (letter from head of Chemistry department, legacy, and already taken classes)
Duke
Vanderbilt

Duke and Vanderbilt are complete and utter longshot dreams... hoping maybe they accept me.. by accident.
Notre Dame is my dream school.

Chances?

Since this was very long and painful to read, I will definitely chance back everyone.

Thank you!!

Marquette, Kentucky, Illinois should be shoe ins. While there is no guarantee, I would be surprised if you do not get accepted. Northwestern seems like a very high match as well. As for the others, you have a very strong GPA and you are at the higher end of their ACT range (superscored).

Chance me back please:

Honestly you have a very good shot at all of these school. The fact that you are being recruited is a HUGE plus.
You’re grades are good and act is good. Kill your essays and good luck!

chance me back
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1706191-chance-me-for-duke-mit-stanford-carnegie-mellon.html</a></p>

@produde Thank you! I will definitely emphasize that more in the Common App

Does anyone know about the Kentucky Honors Program? Would I be a good candidate?

Your portfolio shows a lot of diversity. Notre Dame wants renaissance men. Sounds to me like you’d be a good fit there! Notre Dame is also my dream school!!

Are my chances at Notre Dame really that good…? I just don’t feel like they are…

idk much about marquette, illinois, and kentucy; should be safeties from what I know.
Michigan: low match/match
Notre Dame: match/high match
Vanderbilt: high match
northwestern: high match/low reach
duke: low reach.
Good luck.
Would you mind chancing back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1665423-downwards-trend-poor-class-rank-high-aspirations-will-chance-back.html#latest</a></p>

Thank you! I am chancing back

good list of schools might also look at Holy Cross-very good scholl located 1 hour from Boston. Holy Cross has strong chemistry program and great pre-med program. Holy Cross meets 100% demonstrated financial need.

I was actually being recruited to play golf for Holy Cross and I turned down an offer they made me. It just didn’t seem like the place for me. Thank you for the recommendation!

For Honors Programs, am I still admitted to the normal University if I am denied from the Honors program?

I will chance back anyone btw

I’m also from illinois with a school with a bass fishing team…haha. As you said, Vanderbilt and Duke are dreams. Notre Dame is iffy. Their average ACT is 33, so you’re close, but not quite there. I would say you could flip a coin on your chances at ND. Your golf will probably help you too. Chance me back please?! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1703807-chance-me-for-usc-notre-dame-boston-college-duke-georgetown.html#latest</a></p>

still haven’t chanced back …
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1665423-downwards-trend-poor-class-rank-high-aspirations-will-chance-back.html#latest</a></p>

Your test scores are good for all of your colleges except they’re a little low for northwestern, duke, and maybe Vanderbilt and notredam. Those happen to be the only schools that you might have trouble getting into. It really is a shame that you’re school doesn’t do class rank because you’re GPA is less impressive than your class rank. It’s definitely helpful that your a legacy at Northwestern though (me too btw but only a partial legacy by my grandparents). The difficulty of your couresload is very impressive as well and your ecs are pretty good.
Overall:
Duke: 20%
Vanderbilt: 50%
Notredam: 60%
Northwestern: 75%

Can you chance me back please, I forgot to mention. Thanks! :)

@theanaconda I’m sorry! I looked at yours and I know nothing about any of those schools. I also saw that you had 2.7k views and 54 replies, so I thought my random opinion wouldn’t help at all, maybe even hurt.

Duke, Vanderbilt, Northwestern, and Notre Dame are reaches just as they are for everyone… That’s just the nature of the beast. However, that being said, i think that you still have a shot at those 4 schools (the others I think are relatively safe). Your list is solid, and if anything, I would add schools that have good programs in bio/chem. I think it’s really all a matter of chance.

Chance back
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1705418-brown-and-others-chance-me.html#latest</a></p>

I forgot to add that my school has a different grading scale, which is why my class rank is 3 at such a good school but my GPA isn’t that high. The lowest A is a 93 and a 70 is the lowest D. My UW GPA on a normal scale would be around 3.95
