Will changing my major improve GPA and admission approval?

Hey everyone! I’m a communications major and I’ve recently transferred from a community college to a four-year school. I’m reconsidering my major for a few reasons. One, I think the passion I once had for the subject might be gone. I delved into journalism pretty heavily throughout high school and early college but it no longer piques my interest the way other courses do. Two, my GPA is not ideal for the law schools I have my eye on. I currently have a 3.0 and after doing the math, if I stay on my current route with my current major, I could probably only raise it to around a 3.5 by graduation.

I suppose my question is that will changing my major to something I care about (sociology, political science, criminal justice, etc.) and consequentially spending a few more semesters pursuing my degree give me a better opportunity of raising my GPA?

Additionally, will law schools scrutinize the amount of time it has taken me to get my undergraduate degree?

Thanks for your help!

Spending more time getting As before graduating will improve your GPA. The degree to which you care about the subject only factors into your enjoyment of it. Only you know whether that translates to better grades.

Law schools don’t care how long it takes you to do undergrad.
