Will colleges distinguish between years and credits?

Hello. This upcoming year, I will be taking dual enrollment English, which counts as two credits at my high school. This fulfills the ‘4 credits of English’ graduation requirement at my high school. However, most of the colleges that I am looking at say they want four years of English. I was going to take another AP science class instead of English my senior year, because I plan to major in biochemistry. Will doing so help or hurt my chances of getting into a college?

Four years is not four credits. For those that require four years you may get dinged for that.

For colleges that request four years of English, they mean four years of English.

I find it hard to believe you don’t have room in your schedule for both. You will probably have to sacrifice a study hall/free period or another elective like art, but it should be doable.

You need to check each college to determine if the college English courses you take in high school will fulfill the requirement or expectation of “four years of high school English”.
