Will Cornell rescind based on grades?

I was accepted ED for the class of 2016 as an A and B student. I have already sent in my 7th semester transcript with those grades. However, as a second semester senior, I now have a D+ among my A's and B's. (This grade is a direct result of my limited comprehension of the subject and lack of will to truly succeed in the class. Most others in the class are doing well; it is my fault and mine only.) Of course, I am trying incredibly hard to bring this grade up, but I cannot help but worry about Cornell rescinding my offer. Do you think they will do this? Thank you!

If that is your only D, probably won’t get rescinded but you may start with an academic warning meaning, you cannot have terrible grades as a freshman. I think if you bring it up to a C, it should be fine. Good luck! It sounds like you have learned your lesson and are taking responsibility.

That said, Cornell is within their rights to rescind, but I have not heard of that happening for one grade of D+.

Thanks, TKsmom. My guidance counselor called me in today to create an immediate action plan for this situation, and this danger of being rescinded is without a doubt the biggest wake-up call in my seventeen years of existence. Bump, please.

Well, a D+ averaged with the A or B from the first semester can’t be that bad! They only care about final grades in the class, so you should be fine!

Is the D in a major subject area or an elective? If the former, I might expect a letter from Cornell telling you to keep your academic performance up. I’d say very low probability of rescinding you though. At least try to end up in the B-range for the course, unless it’s too late for that.

Don’t worry about it. Just make absolutely sure you don’t fail the class.

Thanks for the replies; it is in my AP Calculus AB class.

Sounds like you need some help from patrickJMT

Great math videos, saved my ass many times. Seriously, he teaches calculus better than probably 70% of college professors

I wouldn’t say “don’t worry about it.” It is a D,not a C, and it is a major course. If this grade is going to show up on your transcript, which means Cornell would see it, I would contact them now to see how they would view it and let them know you are doing everything possible to bring up your grade. If it is not something Cornell would see, then I would make sure the grade is going to be above C by end of this year. Last thing you want is to be surprised this summer.

There are so many viedos on everything Calculus and my teacher (who is a boss at Calc) said to try Khan if we need help at home.
