Will doing something in the summer and out of the country count as an EC?

The past summer I went to China for a month to learn true martial arts and meditation and hopefully become better at Mandarin.
The martial arts was A LOT more tougher and exhausting than back in the States.

Does this count as an EC, and does it also count as self-studying a language EC even though my parents are Chinese born and raised but they always spoke to me in English?

I would definitely count it as an EC, especially if you have martial arts in other parts of your resume. Now the second one, although laudable, I’m not sure I would. I think it would make a great essay though.
