I am a sophomore undergrad and I am currently enrolled in 4 classes. I am thinking about dropping a class to salvage my GPA. What is more important: showing I took 4 classes even if one grade is mediocre, or taking 4 classes and possibly hurting my GPA. Note that this class I am dropping is not pertinent to any requirements for my major, minor or graduation.

Dropping a class and getting a W will not hurt you. However, I recommend that you speak with the financial aid office before dropping this class especially if there is a chance that your status will change from full time to part time (which can affect your financial aid and you may end up owing the school major $$).

All that matters is GPA. But make sure the W is a non-punitive W. Sometimes they’re calculated as 0s.
