So I am currently taking AP Computer Science Principles and I am almost through the first semester of my senior year. I already applied to colleges. But I don’t like this class and am considering dropping after this semester is over. But I would drop to another AP course, that being AP Psychology. Would dropping AP Comp Sci Principles affect my college admission chances even though I would be switching to another AP class?
Will dropping an AP class to another AP class halfway through senior year affect college admissions?
Normally, dropping an AP class is a risky idea and shouldn’t be taken lightly. However, dropping one to take another is a different question, one that I don’t know how to answer. Good luck.
You need to inform all of the colleges you applied to about your schedule change, so that it will be taken into account when they make admission decisions, and so that they will not be surprised by the difference on your final high school transcript (they do not like surprises on the final high school transcript and may rescind admission for that).
If you have already received an ED, EA, or early rolling admission decision, contact the college to find out if the proposed schedule change will cause rescission of admission or re-evaluation of whether the college will admit you (or give you merit scholarships).
If you can avoid dropping it, I would. Probably not the end of the world though so I wouldn’t sweat it too much
