I am a senior getting ready to apply to colleges for computer engineering. I have a 4.8./4.0. I am taking 3 other AP classes and doing very well however, I am struggling with AP chem. My teacher recommended I drop the class since it will only get harder. My counselor says I have 2 more days before it will become a "withdrawal". I am looking to apply to UMD, univ of Del, Penn state, lehigh, Stevens Inst,Virginia Tech, Northeastern, Bucknell. My question is since I have not sent my applications in yet. How will it affect my GPA and my acceptance if they don't see a science in my senior year. I will take 1/2 semester Web design class so its not a whole year in study hall but I can't transfer now because it is to late to transfer to any other class. This has never happened to me before and I am just so nervous that in the semester before applying I will fail the class. Also, I read that not having a science class will affect my GPA? how?

Could you switch to regular chemistry? The pace wouldn’t be as fast but you’d be better prepared for college if you take that over study hall.

Just drop it

I already took Chemistry sophomore year and received an A, I would have switched to Bio 2 but the counselor said it is to late to take a full year class.I have to take a 1/2 year elective class

Dude!! With those stats alone, those colleges will accept you! All those are matches or safeties (if everything else is just as great ofc)! Btw, apply to a higher tier one just for fun ahaha. You never know xD

First, I’d talk to your guidance counselor about the choices. IMO if you can change it on your application and it won’t show up on your transcript then drop it as long as the rest of your schedule is strong (and it sounds like it is).

I already talked to the counselor and they are the ones that told me about the dropped class will not show up. However, they are not as informed on if it will affect my acceptance to the schools I want to apply to. I am just so glad I didn’t send out my UMD app yet.
