I have an extremely difficult AP Spanish teacher who doesn't believe in curves. The class has a ton of homework. I am applying to top LACS/one Ivy with an interest in science.

GPA 4.1 unweighted/5.2 weighted I am taking AP Physics C and AP Biology, and other honors classes. I took AP Chem and AP BC Calculus last year with 5s on the exams.
SAT math II 800 chem 800
SAT 2330
Good ECs.

If I stick with AP Spanish it will likely be a B and I will need to do a ton of work for that B.

Will not having Ap spanish hurt my chances at top schools? If so, which would be better, getting a B or not taking it?

Thanks for any advice.

I think your username answers your question.

Come on! I have all As/A+s exc an A- in last year’s Spanish. I’d love to continue to learn Spanish but am afraid it will kill me.

Any advice?

If you can handle it, keep it. A B is not going to kill you.

A B is not going to kill me but it won’t look too good, will it?

Also, I don’t know if I can handle it. If I “handle” AP Spanish, I may not have enough time to excel in the AP science courses. We’ve only had 2 SP quizzes graded thusfar, and the last one was an 80, with studying.

chill out… it’s a B. Come on, if you’ve done in all your other classes, and shown consistent extracurriculars and community involvement, its not going to hurt you. If you love it, you really shouldn’t drop it, even if it means a B. (Which isn’t that bad :P)

Are you serious? Dropping a class will not kill your application…nor will getting a B get over yourself, good luck when you start getting B’s in college ha

it depends on what colleges you’re applying to and how selective they are. but having one b probably won’t hurt you unless you’re looking at only ivies. most colleges will see one b and realize that you challenged yourself, and that’s good. but on the other hand, it also comes down to what’s right for you; if this class is way too stressful and you’re missing out on other things because of it, then drop it- 1 AP won’t make the difference.

“A B is not going to kill you.”

Thanks for the advice!
