I took the March 2013 SAT test today, and I'm really worried about my essay. I couldn't think of useful examples, so my essay became a 3 paragraph essay with one example, which really vaguely connected to the prompt, in my opinion. Will this affect my writing score a lot? I got a 7 on my essay the last time I took it, and I really don't want to get a lower score this time.

It really depends on how you did on the multiple choice. I found a chart online from a previous year, and a perfect multiple choice score with a 7 essay was a 770. If you missed 3 questions, you would drop down to a 700. Oddly enough, the sample 6 essays on the college board website both used only example, so don’t assume you will get a terrible score just because you did that. I wouldn’t expect a 12, but you could probably get an 8-10.

I couldn’t think of examples either- I ended up with three awful examples, and I’m honestly not sure how my score will turn out, either…

Same question here. I had 2 really boring examples, and the second I barely explained because I was rushing.

Yes- I got a perfect MC but only an 8 essay in January, and got a 760. A 9 would have given me a 790- one point can make a big difference.

thanks for all the replies. i got a perfect MC last time i took the SAT (January 2013), but i’m not sure how my score will turn out this time…

My essay was garbage, as well. Hopefully it doesn’t kill me.

I took the December SAT and wrote a relatively bad essay. Perfect MC and 8/12 essay curved to a 770 on that test. If you have a solid multiple choice section, a bad essay usually doesn’t hurt you. 80/10 is generally an 800.

I actually took the November SAT last year and got a 790 with a 10 on the essay and -2 MC, so I think it depends on how hard the MC was
