^So do we. But we only report the average to colleges. aka yearly.

As in actual report cards? Note that they are different from “progress report cards”…

Yeah. We get a progress report halfway through the 9 weeks and then report card at the end of it.

i thought you could get this grade up by improving in the next quarter. plus, isn’t the semester grade that counts the most?

One D in one quarter of your whole high school life probably won’t hurt you that much. Like someone else mentioned, if it’s just part of a progress report and not for the whole semester, colleges probably won’t see it (I think).

I thought that colleges only see final grades? Is this true???

Virginia Tech, not Yale. You’ll still get in.

You got a D and you haven’t dropped out yet? Nothing worse than false hope…

I don’t know about other people’s high schools, but at mine, if you don’t drop during first quarter, you’re stuck for the rest of the year.

Thanks everybody for the opinions and advice. :)

^That policy sounds a little too rigid to me. Are you sure?

Most schools will let you drop and you’ll have a WP or a WF on your transcript.

How could you not know?

The only thing colleges look at are the final grades, whether that’s quarterly, half yearly, or yearly.

^^That’s actually the same at my school, so I don’t see it out of the norm.

^And I’m not too sure about it. It’s likely they look at whatever is presented on your transcript. While final grades are most important, it isn’t the “only” thing they look at. I think.

Yep, pretty sure…I know on occasion people have been allowed to change during 2nd quarter, but that seems to be case by case. And they’ll let seniors drop classes at any point. But other than that…

Psh you will be fine I got a D- in English one quarter and got into engineering at Tech A- Okay.

Not all colleges see your transcript before decisions.

Semester grades are the only ones that matter, since they actually affect your GPA…unless your school is different.

Now that’s a nice tautology

P v ~P

@Fairy Dreams -

At my school you have 2 days to drop a regular class at the beginning of the year. If it’s an AP, you have 2 weeks. If you don’t drop it within that time frame, you’re stuck in it for the entire year.

Oh yea, and they don’t let you change classes after like June 6. You can drop all summer but if you drop a class June 7 you can’t add a class back in to cover it.

I got a D in math one quarter junior year… but I ended up with a B. And, actually, I got into Virginia Tech! Sooo… not an issue.

That’s comforting.

Good news! Apparently I had failed to make up a test I missed, which is why I had a D. If I do good on it and the quiz we have scheduled tomorrow, I could potentially get a (low) B!
