Senior quarter grades

Hi guys, I just sent my transcripts to a few colleges and realized that my first quarter grades are in it. During the first few weeks of school I was trying to get out of a Business class that I completely hated but my counselor told me they could only switch after the first quarter so I had to take it. I got a D in it. All my other grades are good, A's in AP Econ, AP Calc BC, AP Com Sci; B+ in english hon and AP Gov and B in physics c. The only class I did bad in was that business class. I was just wondering how much that would hurt my chances to getting into college, especially because I know I can get all As in all my classes for my semester grade except for a B in the class I switch for business because of the D.

I known some students who got a D in their 11th grade and managed to get in to some of the colleges they applied. Since it is one class I don’t think it should matter much and you seem like a high A low B student.

I find it strange you could not drop before the quarter (or switch). In all the schools I been in you can always drop classes whenever (depending on deadlines) and switch in the first week if room was available. I feel that your counselor was messing you up like how my did but I think you should not worry to much so long as that is your only D

Yeah don’t sweat it. If you’re typically an A/B student, they will know that the D is out of the ordinary for you.

For regular decision schools, this shouldn’t be a big factor in the decision (assuming your counselor will send your fall semester grades before decisions are made).

For any rolling, early action or early decisions schools, a low progress report grade senior year should be explained in your application, if possible by a counselor or teacher rather than you. You should include a sentence in the additional info section, if that’s not possible. Explain your commitment to the rigorous courses and that the low grade was in a class you knew you intended to drop and it won’t be reflected on the semester report.
