Will having D's in my junior year kill my chances of getting into colleges?

Well as you can read from the title, I am in danger of getting multiple D’s in my current classes. I can go into more detail as to why my grades are the way they are, but in short, it is a culmination of mental health issues, physical health issues, and personal obligations in my home life.

An option I am thinking of doing is to take the CHSPE and complete my high school certificate and go to CC as a full-time student so that I will be able to transfer into a UC or hopefully (and more ideally/what I want to do) out-of-state in a year or two (I already have a good number of CC credits from dual enrollment).

So how bad would these affect my chances for college? UCs? Out-of-state? When I apply to colleges after 2 years of attending CC will they look at HS grades?

Thank you for your time if you read all of this, and have a good rest of your day.

If your junior year is filled with D grades, that will make it hard to get admitted to any selective college.

If you apply to transfer to a UC or CSU as a junior, then your admission will be judged on your college (including dual enrollment) grades. You do have to fulfill the pre-transfer course requirements for the college and your major; these requirements may differ from the courses you took as a dual enrollment high school student. So you should expect to have to attend a community college before applying as a junior transfer to a UC or CSU.

Okay, thank you for your input! That is good to know that when I do transfer to a UC they would just look at my CC grades and not my high school grades. For my end in terms of what I have taken, I have taken some credits that fulfilled the IGETC so would that mean it would be even shorter? Cause when I do take the CHSPE and if I do pass, I plan on taking a whole courseload (hopefully 18 credits) per semester.

Taking care of yourself and getting into a good mindset is more important than when you will attend the college you are meant to go to. I believe that there will be a lot of quirky semesters during covid times and the universities will be lenient if you go take care of yourself and have a semester that is with explanation. That being said…go get some help right away (with a therapist or online group therapy or a tutor if you can). If you need to take an incomplete so be it. Life does not begin or end on one semester of high school (or college). There are a lot of great CCs and a 4 year will accept you if you turn it around. Bill Gates dropped out. Many successful people have learned from failure and moved on to success. If you can cultivate a life with some prayer and meditation and perspective it will help you achieve a sense of purpose in the long run.

Thank you for your advice! I really appreciate it and I will most definitely try and act on taking care of myself and stuff. Also, I will do my best to do what you said in terms of trying to achieve a sense of purpose in life and not dwell too much over one bad semester.
