This is my senior year and I'm taking 5 AP's. I'm ranked 2/370 and have gotten straight A's all throughout high school. However, it's pretty set that I'll get a B in one of my AP classes this semester. I've sent in my application for Harvard and Yale and that both need a mid year report. I've gotten in to Stanford EA, so I'm assuming my EC's and recs are strong. But I'm wondering how much weaker of a candidate I will be with a B? Will H and Y even consider me? Do I stand a chance against the valedictorians and straight A students?

It probably won’t affect your chances at all. What class is it? I mean if it’s something like AP Calc… admissions knows how hard that class is. Anyway, I seriously don’t think that you have anything at all to worry about.

just stop.

Thank you for posting haaayanna, that made me feel better!
The class is AP Calc btw…

I’m sorry ugotserved…I wasn’t trying to be a jerk or anything :/

Valedictorians are rejected in favor of lower-ranked applicants all the time. All the time.

Oh please. Of course they’re going to consider you. It makes a tiny dent in your GPA. It’s one B. And in an AP class at that. I’d argue that it’s good for straight-A students to get a B once in a while. It knocks them down to reality.

Quit worrying about one B and enjoy the rest of your senior year. Remember that plenty of people have much bigger problems than your imperfect GPA.

Going to have to agree with ugotserved’s “just stop.” Your acceptance will not be rescinded over a B. That’s one amazing option for you that’s essentially secured. You obviously have a strong chance at other highly selective schools as suggested by your results at Stanford.

The impact will be negligible, if not nonexistent.

probably not
