If you don’t like math, why do you force yourself to take it? It’s probably a requirement, isn’t it?

I received a 5 in AP stats this year and I can pretty much say AP Statistics is one of the easiest math classes you could ever take. I personally found middle school geometry harder than stats. It basically tests how well you can plug numbers into a calculator and write down the results in an intelligent manner mixed with a bunch of bs. There are quite a number of programs that you can download onto your calculator to make the class and the test very easy.

Thank you very much for your help. Yes, I’m fairly confident that I can do well in AP Stats. I completely slacked off, and didn’t pay attention during class second semester, which explains my grade plummeting.

I need help deciding which class to take, AP Stats or Pre-calculus again, in Senior year. Which would appeal more to colleges?

Considering that I failed Pre-Calculus second semester in junior year, should I take Pre-Calculus over, or take AP Stats? I’m not sure how much or if the colleges would be bothered by me not taking Pre-Calculus again after I failed it second semester.
However, wouldn’t they like seeing me achieving a decent grade in AP Stats (I’m fairly confident that I’ll be able to do well in this class), since it is higher than Pre-cal? (For ex.: If I take Pre-Cal, and receive a C or B… while if I took Stats, and received a C or B, I would think the grade would look better if I’m taking AP Stats. Right?) Or would they be too bothered that I did not re-take Pre-Cal?

If you’re more intimate with your calculator than others are with their significant other, you’ll rock stats.

On the other hand, not having your basic pre-calc foundations down will still hurt you; you’ll know how to do the stats stuff, possibly, but you can’t go any further as you won’t understand any of the concepts behind it.

I did poorly in Precalc Honors Junior year (had an 85 for the year) and I finished my second semester of AP Stats with a 94, unweighted. I did relatively poorly first semester but worked harder my second. I got a 4 on my AP Stats exam (and I barely know how to use a calculator) so I would say, don’t let people discourage you. Many people thought I was ■■■■■■■■ for doing poorly in Precalc and I’m sure they though that I would do miserably in AP Stats (my Precalc teacher even told me to expect my grade to be about 10 points lower than my Precalc grade if I did take Stats…)

So yes, if you’re down to working hard and proving yourself, go ahead. It’s a very “liberal arts-type” math course.

Sorry, I must sound dumb for asking, but about how you said you had an 85 for the year. I’m imagining 85%, which can’t possibly be right because that’s not horrible. What do you mean by 85?

My friend sort of failed pre-calc but she’s doing fine for stats. You will too.

Don’t let other people discourage you.

Thank you so much!
By the way, though. So it would be a better choice to take AP Stats and do well, rather than take pre-cal over and do well? What appeals better to colleges?

Actually, TBH I think if you have the option of taking pre-calc again, you should take it.

Reason is that:
Firstly, you will need a strong foundation for calculus and retaking it will ensure that you are in a better position when you have to take calculus
Secondly, AP Stats credit isn’t really accepted in very many places.

But AP stats credit is accepted in the college i’m interested. And I heard that Ap stats is actually very helpful as well.
