I’m a freshman in highschool right now and I was wondering if John Hopkins looks at your unweighted GPA. If it’s unweighted I have a 3.5, but weighted it’s a 3.85. I also take all honors and next year I have one AP with the rest being honors. Do they look at freshman GPA at all? It’s awhile until my senior year, but I want to prepare early.
I was accepted into JHU; my freshman GPA was around a 3.7 UW and with my grades for the next three years my final GPA was 3.9—a strong upward trend will seriously help you out. They do look at your freshman grades/GPA, but I’d say it’s the least important year for admissions.
I also took my first AP sophomore year, then 2 junior year and 4 senior year. I’d take as many AP classes as you personally think you can handle while still doing well in all of them.
If you work hard and make sure you get some good ECs with leadership positions, you can definitely have a shot at JHU. But it’s important to keep in mind that this is a school with a 12% acceptance rate for 2016-17, and will probably be even more selective by 2019-20. JHU is a reach for everyone, so make sure you find othe schools you would genuinely enjoy attending.
