Hey guys, I was recently accepted to UCLA as a pre-biz econ major.
I'm planning to major in Biz econ and Japanese as well, hoping to be able to study abroad for a year as well.
Here's the problem, I've taken 3 languages at my high school, and wasn't able to double up in math for those years, so I'm graduating with no calculus and only a pre-calculus experience.
That isn't to say I'm bad at math, I had a 96 average for the year. However, I realized the some of the courses for the pre-major for Biz econ require Math 31A and 31B, which means I'm pretty disadvantaged in terms of the courses I need to take. I would have to take 31A and 31B before I can take Econ 11 or 101 according to the courses catalog. That means I'd have to wait till 3rd quarter to take Econ 11..?
I could be totally wrong but this seems to be my understanding of it. :\
As for the other part, I 100% need to do a study abroad year in Japan, and for the whole year, I heard UCLA only gives 3 classes worth of credit for econ if I take econ classes in Japan for EAP. So if I were to go to Japan my junior year, I'd only be able to take 3 econ classes and nothing else would count right?
Then I got to take my Japanese classes into account too...

Seems tough to do in 4 years. Or Do I have it all wrong?

well lets see,
I’m assuming I got no less than a 5 on my micro/macro AP exams so, I will not have to take Econ 1+2.
I have to take econ 41, math 31a, math 31b, mgmt 1a+b, econ 11 and econ 101 and writing for the premajor
and 11 more classes for the actual major.

for japanese, I need 15 more classes to complete the major.
plus I have GE credits I need to do.

On the EAP website, it says:

So, that means I can take 3 elective econ courses…(replacements for 106’s?), I wonder if I can take MGMT elective courses too.

I’m willing to bet that I can knock off some Japanese courses at my Japanese university I’m planning to attend(obviously).

So, that basically leaves all the pre-major econ stuff (7 courses) to do before my junior year, and assuming I take 1-2 Japanese classes per quarter, I’ll have about 10 before I leave. That’ll leave 5 Japanese courses to do my junior year abroad, and senior year back at UCLA.

So, I’ll have no problem finishing the Japanese Major, the problem is the Biz-Econ major.
Will I be able to take more than the 7 pre-major courses before junior year? Also, that means I have possibly 8 econ classes to finish in the last 3 quarters my senior year…
