High school had a mild gpa, went to community college for 2 years have a ~2.8 gpa. Been out of school for 6 months. Want to get into usc’s business school as a finance major. Uncle and farther we alumni, i have 4 alumni recomendation letters.
Acheivements:
Propert/casualty insurance brokers license
Life insurance broker license
Natl assoc securities dealers (NASD)- series 7 (stock broker license), 65 and 66
Top producing mortgage broker
Top producing account exec in commercial lease/finance
Own my own private finance group specializing in hard money/forecloseure bailouts
Manage over 1 million dollars in assets for my investment accounts (just starting)
Currently structing my next company (real estate invstmnt trust- aka reit)
So i figure when you’ve been out of school for a couple months they base entrance on acheivments. How are my chances? BTW im 20. Any recomendations?
BTW I wasnt sure which forum to post in

haha with all those achievements, you seem pretty well off, why do you still want to go back to school? haha

anyways, 2.8 is kinda low but those are pretty impressive achievements. i'm sure if you interview well and everything, you should have some chances...managing over 1 million dollars in assets is a lot...usc should recognize you, but i'm not sure how they deal with special situations like you (20 yrs old, been out of school...)

You should also see if you can go directly into Pepperdine's Executive MBA program with the combination of you CC credits and work experience.

Big benefit: You can keep running your businesses and get the MBA at night.

Plus, Pepperdione's program may be more useful in that it will be more practical, a little less theoretical.

You've not been out of school long. Your school records will still be important. Your work achievments are just bonus. 4 letters of rec are too many. Use the 2 most meaningful. An academic letter of rec will be important. Alumni father a big plus.

From the college board website:
Total number of transfer students who applied: 6,799
Total number of transfer students who were admitted: 2,064

This is good news - the percentage is a lot better than many schools.

76-100% of students had H.S. GPA of 3.0 or higher

Did you already apply or just thinking of? If you are just thinking, I'd try to contact the admissions office and find out about transfer admissions in your case.

Im not applying yet i have one more class (math) to finish then ill apply. Does everyone intervies or only a select few? I know i dont need the degree but i have a legacy now :D WEll good new for me i guess, im really excited about the experiance (ie parties girls) then the diploma

A couple of thoughts.

a) You don't need the degree now, perhaps, but down the road it could make or break your getting appointed to the head of your company. It did for my dad in an Engineering Co, when he only had an AA degree but was head of marketing and brought in the contracts.

b) Don't bother to go to school for parties and girls. Parties and girls are everywhere, not just at colleges. This is so uninspiring to read. But the parties and girls are better outside of college, anyway. Why would you go to school for that. You must have no clue.

I have no idea if this particular school interviews--you can read their website or call the admisisons office to ask, but with your low-ish gpa, you should be looking at some back-up schools.

What i meant was im going for the experiance, and you proved a good situation where a degree could come in handy. I hope admission to USC will be like a job offering where those with experiance will qualify.
