Will I Be Attending an Ivy League School?

Hi .. here are my stats.

I'm in the IB diploma program with the most challenging course load for all four years. My high school is in the Newsweek Top 300, so it's moderately competitive. By the way, I'm white and female and Jewish.

Stats:
currently ranked 2/580
freshman year-4.0 unweighted, 4.68 weighted
sophomore year-3.9 unweighted, 4.52 weighted
junior year-3.95 unweighted, 4.68 weighted

SATS: 800math, 780reading, 760 writing=2340 total
SAT IIs: MathIIC 780, US History 760, Chemistry 740

EC's seperated by focus areas:
Language:
- 7 years of Spanish
- 4 years of Hebrew taken through U of M College-in-the-Schools, total of 24 credits
- 3 years flvs.net online Latin class
- Member of Language Club freshman-senior years

Leadership:
- Student council treasurer this year
- Student school board representative this year
- President of synagogue youth organization
- On school board as a junior
- Debate freshman-senior, captain Junior and Senior years

Volunteering/business initiative:
- Over 1,000 documented C.S. hours through high school, nothing really impressive.. mix of homeless shelters, nursing homes, etc
- Tutors elementary schools kids in Hebrew for 15/hr. twice weekly
- Started a business selling reusable flashcards that has made thousands of dollars over the last couple years

- Won best handwriting in school 2 years in a row :)

I'm going to go to law school after college because I really, really, really want to be an FBI agent. Or I might go pre-med and become a psychiatrist.

Harvard
Yale
Princeton
Stanford
Columbia
UChicago
Northwestern
Carleton
U of Minn (in state)

THANKS!

I'd say you have a REALLY good shot at every school on your list although of course it's never sure with HYPS. But you should definitely apply!

(btw, afaik it's far from necessary to be a lawyer to join the FBI.)

To me your challenge (as always) will be to emphasize what makes you stand out.

Apparently you are very active as a member of your minority (synagogue youth organization, hebrew speaker/tutor), which would be a good theme to riff on in an application.

If I was an admission officer I would also definitely want to hear more about that business and the vegetable garden you started, which to me sounds more impressive than simply taking part in things that already exist.

Top schools admissions officers always read about applicants who are at the top of their class, eagle scouts, model congress, whatever. That's not the kind of stuff you should emphasize.

You should also emphasize not just that you want to join the FBI but WHY. Is it an unrealistic little girl's dream, or is it a serious, thought-out objective that will make an admissions officer care about you and decide you have great potential and they should have you in their school?

You have a lottery ticket. Great stats but average ECs.

If you want a much stronger chance at an ivy you need to apply to those not currently on your list. Columbia is now just as hard as HYP.

Post

i reaally don't think your ECs are just "average". did suze consider all your leadership positions and community involvement?

all you have to do now is to do an app that'd make the admissions officer really like you as a person. and go for all the alumni interviews u can get - i can tell you'd have tons of stuff to talk about :)

thanks for the opinions, guys
